Before Hurrican Sandy knocked a tree down across it, you could safely walk along the tiered paths around The Hofheimer Grotto as was originally intended. To the right, you can still see the steps that lead down to the pool, from which you could get into a small rowboat.

This photograph was taken by Debbie Weisman in January, 2009, during the “5 minute walking tours” that PER Doug Reeder gave that year after the traditional New Year’s Day brunch.
