On Saturday, March 2, 2019, Quaid Mobus was awarded the Citizen of the Year award by Danny Larsen, ER of Watchung Hills Elks Lodge #885. The celebration was held at Edison Elks Lodge #2487, where Quaid was surrounded by his family and guests.

Elks look forward to nominating a Citizen of the Year — we are tasked to choose someone “who has contributed in a special way to improving the local community. This individual should be someone who has shown leadership in the community; has contributed voluntary service and is recognized as being an all-around good citizen.” With these qualities in mind, the choice was clear, and Danny introduced Quaid at the ceremony:

“Good Afternoon. Dignitaries, Guests, Members All. Watchung Hills Lodge #885 has nominated Quaid Mobus as the Citizen of the Year. On September 20th, 2013, Quaid sustained spinal cord injuries…” which sent shock-waves through his family, friends and community. The unimaginable difficulties associated with life as a quadriplegic slowly set in.
But Quaid is a fighter, and he pushed on not only to improve not only himself, but he began inspiring other families impacted by spinal cord injuries, by showing them how to put the pieces of your life back together, and letting them know that it will get better. Quaid’s unique ability to deliver this message has been well received, and because he survived, they know they will survive.”

Quaid began his response with this sentence: “I want to start off by thanking the Elks…”
