In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation that officially established June 14 as Flag Day . It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.

Please make plans to join us at 4PM on Saturday, June 15th, for a ceremony led by Warren, NJ Boy Scout Troop 228. There will be “Hospitality” afterwards – snacks and sandwiches, at no charge.

This is a public, family-friendly event, open to all – bring your friends and family as we express our patriotism on this special day. Help instill in our children a sense of pride in our country.

Did you know…?

Patriotism has characterized the Elks since the early days of the organization. Allegiance to the flag of our country is a requirement of every member.

  • 1907: the Elks Grand Lodge designated, by resolution, June 14 as Flag Day.
  • 1911: the Grand Lodge of the Order adopted mandatory observance of the occasion by every Lodge (and that requirement continues).
  • 1916: the Elks prompted President Woodrow Wilson to recognize the Order’s observance of Flag Day for its patriotic expression.
  • 1949: President Harry Truman, himself a member of the Elks, made the proclamation that thereafter June 14 would be a day of national observance for the symbol of our country. It was through his Elks Lodge in Independence, Missouri, that President Truman got the idea for a national observance of Flag Day.
